2017 Conference Schedule

Opening Session: 9:00am-10:00am

Diagnosed with Autism at the age of three has not slowed Joel down. He has persevered through all the hard work of being the best he can be. In 2009, Joel graduated from high school with his diploma in hand! Currently he is taking classes in college toward a degree in animation. His dream is to make child friendly movies and animated books teaching good character qualities. His dream was to have his art shown in New York City and Hollywood, and that came true in 2011!

Session 1: 10:20am-11:00am

Session will provide participants information on how to begin a camp ministry as well the benefit to families who participate in such opportunities.

Session will provide strategies for connecting and partnering with local leadership in order to serve the needs of all members of your local faith community.

Session participants will walk away with practical ideas for engaging and supporting the needs of individuals in their local communities.

Session participants will discuss various models in order to determine strengths and challenges associated with each.

Session will address the practical needs of family members supporting loved ones with chronic illness as well as practical means by which local faith communities can support these families.

Don’t miss the debut of a new video devotional series created by and for individuals with special needs. Videographer/artist Joel Anderson and musician/podcast host Reid Moriarty will describe their collaboration and show you several 7-minute devotionals designed specifically for teens and adults. You will have a chance to ask questions and give feedback.

Session will provide participants tools necessary to begin the work of children’s ministry as well as enable them to develop plans and goals for their local faith community.

Session 2: 11:20am-12:00n

Session will help participants identify ‘transition’ ages and plans in order to meet the varying needs of all ministry members.

Session will provide an overview of secular supports in order to understanding the role these services/institutions play in the everyday lives of ministry members. Participants will also learn practical ways in which to connect with these supports.

Session participants will be provided practical tools for keeping all participants (volunteers, members, visitors) safe within their ministry.

Session is designed to share some ‘easy wins’ and ‘how-tos’ that will motivate people to act when they return to their groups.

Session will layout practical recruitment and retention strategies necessary for growing and sustaining your ministry.

Session will provide participants tools necessary to begin the work of youth ministry as well as enable them to develop plans and goals for their local faith community.

Session will provide a basic outline of successful VBS programs used to support children and youth in the community while also serving as an outreach for parents.

Lunch: 12:00n-1:20pm

Table Talk Breakout Groups

Food for the heart and the body. Various discussion topics will be posted on lunch tables. Sit, eat, talk, fellowship. Fun!

 

Session 3: 1:20pm-2:00pm

Session will provide participants tools necessary to begin the work of adult ministry as well as enable them to develop plans and goals for their local faith community.

Session is geared toward helping participants Create/Utilize/Adjust a curricular approach that connects with a variety of members.

Session will enable participants to identify where they might be ‘missing’ opportunities or people in their community.

This session will compare theory with reality revealing what really works.  Co-presented by mother and son, the workshop will contrast best-laid plans for “programs” with actual relationships that disciple and model Jesus. Participants will be challenged to identify, enlist, and appreciate the natural strengths and spiritual gifts of all the members in the community.

Session will focus on understand basic functions of behavior. Participants will learn practical positive reinforcement strategies as well as strategies for managing difficult behaviors.

Closing Session: 2:15pm-3:00pm
